Essential oils and the menopause

In modern day society, we all are dealing with high levels of emotional stress, toxic chemicals, too much work and not enough sleep, that comes from our modern lifestyles and the choices we make in dealing with our fast-paced life.

Unfortunately, “stress and toxic chemicals” are at the top list for causing hormone imbalance, and the female endocrine system (hormonal system) is very sensitive to stress.

The use of these “super oils”, adaptogen essential oils are vital for hormonal imbalances where glands may be under-functioning in one system, while over-functioning in another. The beauty of using apoptogenic essential oils is that they are capable of balancing opposing conditions without creating further imbalance.

Another interesting fact is, when using a group of these super oils together this strengthens their healing properties. Five of the super oils contain “citral” and they are listed below.

·       Lemon

·       Myrtle

·       Clary Sage

·       Geranium

·       Lemon Grass

We know that menstruation and menopause is a natural process for women, however, some of the side effects can be unpleasant for many of us. The ovaries produce the hormones estrogen and progesterone, when imbalanced, this can lead to several symptoms including:

·        PMS

·        infertility

·        difficult or irregular menstrual cycles

·        lowered libido

·        difficult menopausal symptoms like sweats and hot flashes

A very interesting Dutch study, (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11990004,) has found that the composites in lemon peels, which is a large component of Citrus Limon essential oil, (cirtral) can improve liver functions like hormone regulation by lowering liver cholesterol.

Hormonal imbalances can be treated with essential oils safely and holistically. They can be inhaled, diffused, applied to the skin or taken internally to rebalance our hormonal system.

Essential oils are perfect, whether it’s for a situational or chronic issue. So much of what we are taking INTERNALLY, and inhaling are leading to what I refer to as estrogen pollution in our bodies. If we can embrace more natural, non-toxic, synthetic-free remedies, we lower our toxic threshold and the resulting hormonal imbalances that occur from breaching that threshold. Marie Delcioppo, health coach and New York Times featured Raw Foods Chef.
